Warranty Policy
What the OpenBoxZone warranty covers on a Certified Pre-Owned device, what it excludes, how long cover lasts, and how to make a claim.
Every device OpenBoxZone sells is Certified Pre-Owned: IMEI-verified, data-wiped, battery-tested and graded before it is listed. This page explains what that means after your order arrives — what is covered, for how long, what is not covered, and how to make a claim.
1. What is covered
Your device is covered against functional failure that is not caused by you — a fault in the hardware or in its refurbishment that stops the device working as described on its listing. This includes:
- A component that fails in normal use (screen, cameras, speakers, microphone, charging port, buttons, sensors).
- Cellular, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth radios that do not connect as specified.
- Battery health materially below the figure disclosed on the listing at the time of sale.
- A device that does not match the grade or the condition notes it was sold under.
2. How long you are covered
The warranty period for each device is stated on its product page and repeated on your order confirmation. Coverage runs from the delivery date. Cover can differ by product, by grade and by whether the device carries a remaining manufacturer warranty, so the listing — not this page — is the authority on your particular term.
If you bought an Extended Protection Plan at checkout, its length and coverage are the ones shown on the plan you selected, and they are recorded on your order. An extended plan runs alongside this warranty; it does not replace it.
3. What is not covered
- Accidental damage — drops, cracked screens, bent frames, crushed housings.
- Liquid damage, including damage to devices with a water-resistance rating. Water resistance is not guaranteed on a pre-owned device and is not a warranted property.
- Cosmetic wear that was disclosed at the point of sale. Grades A–D describe expected cosmetic condition, and marks consistent with the grade you bought are not faults.
- Normal battery ageing after delivery. The disclosed battery-health figure describes the device as sold, not a level it will hold indefinitely.
- Damage from unauthorised repair, opening or modification, including third-party parts fitted after delivery.
- Software issues caused by jailbreaking, rooting, or installing modified firmware.
- Consumables and accessories — cables, chargers, cases and adapters — beyond their own stated terms.
- Loss, theft, or any device we cannot identify by its IMEI or serial number.
4. Before you claim
- Back up your data. A warranty repair or replacement may erase the device, and we cannot recover data from it.
- Remove all account locks. Sign out of iCloud, Find My, Google or Samsung accounts and remove any device passcode. A locked device cannot be tested or serviced and will be returned to you unrepaired.
- Have your order number and IMEI or serial ready. Dial *#06# on the device to display its IMEI.
5. How to make a claim
Start a claim from your account, from the app, or by contacting support with your order number, the device IMEI or serial, and a clear description of the fault — photos or a short video help us diagnose it faster. We will confirm next steps, and where the device needs to come back to us we will tell you how to send it.
We inspect every device we receive. If a claimed fault is confirmed, we repair, replace or refund the device at our option, and return shipping on a confirmed warranty claim is on us. If inspection finds no fault, or finds damage this policy excludes, we will contact you before doing anything and return the device to you.
6. Warranty and returns are different things
A return sends the device back for a refund inside the return window. A warranty claim fixes or replaces a faulty device after that window has closed. If your device is faulty and you are still inside the return window, a return is usually faster and gives you your money back — see the Return & Refund Policy for the current windows and any fees. This warranty applies once the return window has passed.
7. Transfers and limits
Warranty cover is tied to the original purchase and the original buyer, and it does not transfer when the device is sold on. This warranty gives you specific rights; it does not affect any statutory rights you have under applicable consumer law, which apply in addition to it.
8. Contact
Questions about cover on a device you already own, or on one you are thinking of buying, go to [email protected] or through the contact form. Quote your order number if you have one.
